Japanese A608

Has anyone actually purchased and used a Japanese A608 in the US? I am interested in buying the Special Edition Emerald A608 but before I spend $200+ I want to be sure it will work over here.

I know there has been some discussion about the radio frequency and such but I was just curious to know if it works with the English version of Windows, etc. A friend of mine in Japan called Sony and was told that the A608 "is not compatible with overseas operating systems". Can onyone confirm the truth of this?

Only if your OS is something besides Windows, I'd imagine. Besides radio frequency the only issue I can see is installing Connect on your machine since it would come with the Japanese version. As long as you can get Sonic Stage or Connect in English you should be fine. Where are you thinking of ordering from?

I live in Japan, and I use a French Vaio. I bought an A-608, and everything works perfectly fine! they are building exactly the same devices for every country. More, the Connect installation CD is immediately in your language, and you can choose the language and the country service to install...

The only thing I don't know yet is if the radio works outside of Japan. But I think the answer is yes. I will try in a week in France. But even so, I can't tell you if the French radio is the same frequences as US...

I was planning having a friend order directly from the Sony Japan site. The exchange rate puts it at about $206 plus say...$20 shipping. That's not terrible. Dynamism.com has it also but it's listed for $319 before shipping. Of course, it's guaranteed to work if you get it from them.

Band frequencies for FM of U.K & France are same i.e87.5 – 108MHz.So no problem in buying from France

glad to hear that it works. ive been thinking about getting an a608 in japan and using it in the US. from what ive read from you guys only the fm frequencies are different? it seems to be for sale on the sony canada website (less colors though) and i think the fm frequencies for the US and Canada are the same so im thinking about getting it from there instead. although the emerald color from japan looks really cool. btw do you any of you guys know where you can buy that besides from sony (im talking stores in Japan, preferablly tokyo)?
