MiniDisc Carrying Cases on the Cheap

I'm always one to find inexpensive ways of going about things, and when it came to finding a decent carrying case for my portable MiniDisc player, I made no exception. Cases for MiniDiscs can be difficult to

find, and like any specialty item aren't all that cheap. For example, one available from Audio-Technica runs about $20.

However, I've discovered that the cases made for common, point-and-shoop type cameras make great MiniDisc cases. They are typically just the right width, and usually have a bit of extra depth and a bit more extra length. The best part is that most point-and-shoot camera bags sell for very little, and are easy to find at places like Target, Wal-Mart, etc.

In fact, I found one made by Ambico at Big Lots for the princely sum of $5. It's a typically black and dark blue trimmed neoprene bag with a velcro closure, velcro/snap-button belt strap, shoulder strap and mesh front, side and interior pockets. The front pocket perfectly fits two or maybe even three minidiscs, the side pocket is great for spare batteries or short cables, and the interior pocket suitable for a set of earbud head phones.

My Sharp MD-MS702 fits perfectly into the bottom of the case, and there's about an inch and a half of extra room above it that easily accomodates the remote. In case you're wondering, here's the exact interior dimensions (and I'd assume most of these type of cases will be the same or very similar):

3 3/4" X 5 1/4" X 2"

And, if this is already well-known, please forgive me...I'm new to the MiniDisc world. :D

Oh yeah, and one more tip. I usually try to carry a few handy adaptors with my MiniDisc player, like a dual-stereo headphone splitter, a 3.5mm to dual-RCA adapter and a 3.5mm-to-3.5mm cable. I've found that I can very carefully fit all three of these items into a Altoids gum tin (the ones that are narrower than the mint tins), and then the tin goes into the side pocket on the case.
