piggy
I need to transfer my md music to computer. Does anyone know if a optical input/output usb for my laptop will ignore the scms on my md music? Thanks
raintheory
I've had no problems recording my old MDs to my PC by running the optical out of my MDS-E10 or MD-350 into the optical in of my EMU 1616m and onto my laptop...Keep in mind that you will need a MD player with optical out in order to achieve this.I think SCMS would only apply anyway if you were attempting to copy a 2nd gen digital recording. I have no 2nd gen digital recordings to test out myself. But as I stated, I have had no problems as of yet recording into my EMU... piggy
Thanks for the info. I have read elsewhere that computers will ignore the scms with digital out or in but will not make the track marks. I understand this as one has to manually make tracks marks on every song when recording from computer to md (without netmd and using optical out) and to save each song separately on the computer when recorded md to computer? raintheory
If there is enough silence between tracks when going from computer to MD, the MD recorder may automatically place a track mark. There is a plugin somewhere I remember seeing for WinAmp that insterted enough silence in between songs for this to occur. I am unsure though if this works for both optical and analog. As for going from MD to PC, it depends. I use GoldWave most of the time, and had it set up at one point to where it would pick up where the track marks were (even if they weren't during silence) and place a cue mark, which then could be used later to split the file. I can't remember if I was doing this while recording with optical or not, and I know it didn't always work 100% of the time as far as placing the cues (sometimes it would skip one or place one where there wasn't one, but this is easily fixed).I'll try to set it up tomorrow on this laptop and see how I accomplished it. I think I remember a thread elsewhere in the forum asking something about track marks during real-time recording and as far as I know they were having no luck.. I'll be sure to post here and there when I get it going again. Edited September 29, 2005 by raintheory
