I have been waiting for Hi-MD a year in advance before the 1st gens came out, had a MZ-NH1 on order but then had to cancel for financial reasons. Now that the 2nd gen has been out and the 3rd gen a distant possibility, should I buy a Hi-MD unit now at market price or wait for the announcement and hope for a price drop in the near future? Or will Hi-MD unit prices remain the same regardless of Hi-MD's future? Thoughts and opinions please :D

I would buy the best unit you can afford as a primary unit and get one or two units like the 600 for your run of the mill listening. If you really need mp3 one of the cheaper second generation units will do.

Personally I just got another NH1, and wiil try to get at least one more, if not then a 900, and will probably get a 600 for my bump and grind daily manoeuvres/

I could see them trying to drop old school MD (for recording, I still think it would be supported for playback) in favour of Hi-MD.

As long as they don't kill the Hi-MD format altogether then I can live with it.

But Sony, if you ditch the Walkman portables you need to build me a nice standalone deck as a replacement....

I'm going to try and remain optimistic. Afterall, those MAC compatible models seemed to show up out of nowhere. You never know, they may just announce new models tomorrow! (Although unlikely.....)

HiMD has cloudy future. they made direct-mp3 - thats very good, cause U dont need to waste time to convert mp3 in atrac. but ruomors about future of md make me nervous.

I think if u want himd, u should buy cheap model of 2 (or better 3) generation, cause mp3players are really simpler in use than himd and more popular and potentially have brighter future
