andy1982
I have recently began using my MDS-NT1 deck again and found I was able to record Hi-SP tracks from my computer to the deck. The recording is written to the MD in standard SP form and is playable on any of my old players. I was wondering how exactly this works. Previously I was limited to LP2 quality by the old Open MG version 2.0 (although the deck itself was always capable of making SP recordings). It was only when I replaced this old program with the version of Sonicstage I got with my new Hi-MD recorder (the Euro version of the NH600) that I noticed this. Roamer
There has been a few changes since OpenMG (which i have never used ...)But the SP that you can get from SonicStage is actually 'fake SP' (similar to LP2 in quality).Check this for example :http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=11247The only advantage is that it plays on older units ... zerodB
If your deck is NetMD, then SonicStage will transcode HiSP to LP2 before transfer. So you still get "fake" SP. In fact it will sound even worse than LP2 converted to fake SP, since your original material needs to be transcoded from HiSP.
