Daice
Hi! I'm new here and I've decided to post this topic since I found no answer to my problem after some days of search.I was using SS 3.1 but it was crashing as hell and found out the SS3.2 was out and decided to give it a try. After I had uninstalled it I installed SS3.2 and rebooted. When I tried to run SS3.2 it said that I needed a newer version of the OpenMG Secure Module. This should not have happened since the SS3.2 installer should have downloaded the latest version of it. Ok, no panic. I decided to check the add/remove program list and check if any OpenMG was there and found out that OpenMG 4.1 and a Limited Patch was still there. The Limited Patch I could uninstall without any problem but the OpenMG just refuse to be uninstalled. It aways says: Error 1606. Could not access network location %allusersprofile%\start menu\programs\startup\. .I tried to reboot and retry but had no sucess. I tried to search on google to find ou something and found this forum where I checked some threads incluind FAQ about ho to uninstall SS but no sucess. Even though I had deleted all the files (that I know they exist) and the register entries mentioned on the thread, I still can't install SS3.2 due to this OpenMG 4.1 problem.I'm running on Win2k SP4The CPU is a P4 1.69GHZ768 of RamAVG Anti-Virus on itWell, don't know if there're any other relevant infoIf so, just ask that I'll answer.Hope someone can help me with this since RealPlayer can't transfer to a Hi-MDThanks in advance
A440
Have you tried the MDCF full offline installer from Downloads?Download it, disconnect from Internet, turn off your antivirus and try it. Don't forget to put your antivirus back on before going online.
Ishiyoshi
The Limited Patch I could uninstall without any problem but the OpenMG just refuse to be uninstalled. It aways says: Error 1606. Click Start, and then click Run. 2. In the Open box, type regedt32, and then click OK. 3. In Registry Editor, locate the following registry key:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall 4. In the left pane, click the Uninstall registry key, and then click Export on the File menu. 5. In the Export Registry File dialog box that appears, click Desktop in the Save in list, type uninstall in the File name box, and then click Save. 6. Each key listed under Uninstall in the left pane of Registry Editor represents a program that is displayed in the Currently installed programs list of the Add or Remove Programs tool. To determine which program that each key represents, click the key, and then view the following values in the details pane on the right:DisplayName: The value data for the DisplayName key is the name that is listed in Add or Remove Programs.-and-UninstallString: The value data for the UninstallString key is the program that is used to uninstall the program. 7. After you identify the registry key that represents the program that you removed but which is still displayed in the Currently installed programs list of Add or Remove Programs, right-click the key in the left pane of the Registry Editor window, and then click Delete. Click Yes in response to the "Are you sure you want to delete this key and all of its subkeys?" message. 8. On the File menu, click Exit to quit Registry Editor. 9. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs. In the Currently installed programs list, verify that the program whose registry key you deleted is no longer listed. 10. Do one of the following:- If the program list is not correct in Add or Remove Programs, double-click the Uninstall.reg file that you saved to your desktop in step 5 to restore the original list of programs in the registry. -or- - If the program list is correct in Add or Remove Programs, right-click the Uninstall.reg file on your desktop, and then click Delete. In addition to the above instruction, you may want to use RegCleaner to clean up any further registry entry that impedes your SonicStage 3.2 update. *this step is not necessary if you can remove "OpenMG Secure Module" successfully as outlined above. Upon removal of "OpenMD Secure Module," reboot and reinstall SonicStage 3.2 as suggested by member, A440. Good luck.
Daice
Thanks for the reply. Now, I tried the little guide Ishiyoshi posted but had no sucess either.Even though the OpenMG SM4.1 disappeared from the Add/Remove Program List and from the Uninstall list from EasyCleaner, it is still showing up on RegCleaner and I'm not sure how RegCleaner works exactly. On RegCleaner I have selected OpenMG SM and clicked on "Uninstall" but nothing happend and I don't know if the "Remove Selected" button deletes the string on the register or simply remove the program from it's own list so I decided not to press it until further information. Anyway I have tried to install SS3.2 but no success. OpenMG SC4.2 don't want to be installed. My guess is because of 4.1 that is still there. Whenever the SS installer was trying to install OpenMG SM it said Error 1617 (or 1607, don't remember right now) and aborted the installation. And the problem persists. When I try to open SS3.2 it says I need a newer version of OpenMG SM.And yes, I have tried with both installers, the online and offline ones and none worked out.I have no idea where are the remaining files from SM4.1 and have no idea about how to remove them. This is really troblesome since there's no other way to tranfers music for my Hi-MDedit: Well, tried everything that came to my mind except format. I don't know it I can't install SC 4.2 because of remains of 4.1 because I think I have already removed everything relevant from 4.1. Whenever I try to install SS3.2 (MDCF off line version it says this when installing the SM=> "1607:Unable to install InstallShield Script Runtime" and after this the installation of the SM is aborted and the other components are installed normally. There's a possibility that the problem is with the installer so I'll try to install with the online version and see what happens. If anyone have any information that could share with me I would appreciate. Thanks Edited October 24, 2005 by daice
Daice
Well, there's some problem with the OpenMG Secure Module 4.2.I tried with the online installer but had no results either. It notify nothing when installing the Secure Module but it can't install it either so the installation just looks like went fine but it didn't. When I tried to run SN3.2 it still said I needed a newer version of OpenMG Secure Module and when I checked the list of installed program I found out that there was no OpenMG Secure Module installed on my pc.So, I don't know if the problem is with the installer or with my pc. I guess that even if I could find an OpenMG Secure Module 4.2 installer I would not be able to install it. So, anyone could give me a hand? Thanks

So, anyone could give me a hand? Please try and install the attached OpenMG Secure Module ver. 4.2. Report back if the problem still persists. Daice
Downloaded OpenMG Secure Module 4.2 and tried to install but had no success. It still says "1607: Unable to install InstallShield Scripting Runtime" About the RegCleaner, I just deleted a string on the register through regedit (not through regdt32) and the program disappeared from its list. Now I have no idea what could be causing this. Can't jfigure out why SM4.2 doesn't want to install.

It should work this time. As for the "1607: Unable to install InstallShield Scripting Runtime" error, if you wish to rectify this issue --> this guide should point you in the right direction. Daice
Ok! It worked out! There problem was in the registery key! Thanks for the support! And Thanks for pointing me the InstallShell site! I could find my answers there!Error 1607 was happening because of Error 1606. Error 1606 happens due to some problems on data info in some strings inside the registry.Later I'll tranfer some music to see if everything is all right with the program (if it improved or not since SS3.1 crashed all the time in here...it really was annoying). Thanks for the support! rebeljoe
Hi everyone,I'm having problems getting rid of OpenMG 4.1 too. I uninstalled it using Add/Remove programs, but it still exists in the list of programs (without a file size noted) and the option to "change/remove" doesn't do anything at all. When I turn my computer on, the OpenMG installer comes up and tries to re-install itself. It goes on to say that it could not find the right something or other (sorry I haven't written it down but I can find it if it matters), and the two windows, the installer and the window about not being able to find the right location, keep going back to each other as I close them, which is extremely annoying (Thanks Sony keep up the quality work!!). I end up having to stop the module and installer with the Task Manager, and this usually takes a couple tries before both the installer and the module give up. Right now I refuse to buy any Sony computer-related product again, this is just ridiculous. Anyways, I tried the instructions that Ishiyoshi provided, but when I get to the Current Version part, I don't get an "uninstall" option in the folder. What could this mean? Is there a way around this that anyone knows? If I'm having lots of problems with my computer right now, like this one, would it be best to save all my files on an external drive and completely start all over (Im blanking on the term)? Thanks for your time and expertise, it is greatly appreciated. -Joe

A440
The ball of wax uninstall directions are here. http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=8071The section you need is as follows: 2. If you run Windows XP/Windows 2000 Professional, proceed to delete the following directories:- "Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data/Sony Corporation/Sonicstage"- "Documents and Settings/All Users/Sonicstage"- "Program Files/Common Files/Sony Shared"- "Program Files/Sony/Sonicstage"- "Program Files/Sony/Personal Audio Driver"Similiar directories should be found in lesser Windows operating systems.3. Start -> Run -> regedit. The 'Registry Editor' utility should appear on your screen. Delete the references to OpenMG located under 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Sony Corporation/Sonicstage' and 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Sony Corporation' by right-clicking on the entries.
