An Old PC and no Internet !

Question

Shocking I know, but I currently only have an old laptop, with an AMD chip, 20 Gb and 256 RAM and no internet connection (i am writing this at work)

BUT I am getting a Sony AW1000 for christmas and a new Super PC is going to follow in the new year, along with broadband, my acceptance of the 21st century and the throwing out of my oil lamps

Now I am going to use either Connect or Sonicstage to rip my CD's into ATRAC format and just want to check that I can do all of this without an internet connection and with my limited capacity laptop

Also I am in a dilema about what ATRAC compression rate to use. Obviously I want a good compression rate to get lots of tracks on my soon to be beloved NWA1000, but want a reasonable quality. I will be using a radio transmitter for a 6 week travel jaunt and in the car, but will also be purchasing one of the flashy Sony docking stations/speaker setup things. Any advice on a good balance ?

Thanks

Sonic Stage ver3.3 will work fine in 256mb ram but it is recommended to have 512mb ram with "Connect"..

But if you install Connect then it will be very nessasary to install its updates...

because "Connect" has lot of Bugs (i`m not sure wheter it will work or not even after update..)

Sonic Stage ver3.3 can be used with A1000 & it is much more stable then "Connect"

I You have all your music in Mp3`s then its not advisable o convert it into Atrac(tough it is better & more battery efficient ..

But if you really want to have decent quality then Atrac128kpbs or 132kpbs will be a good bet..

Hi!

I have, in my 20Gb Vaio Pocket, 1150song recorded as Atrac132 and they fill nearly 3.4Gb of the space.

I suppose in the new walkman (a series) they will fill less space because in the vaio pocket you can attach album covers.

Hope this information is useful,

Ameli :ol_biggrin:

Cheers for the info guys

I started ripping my CD's using SonicStage 3.3 last night at 128 whatsits and things chugged along quite merrily without any hiccups.

So far SonicStage has been excellent, but I guess I won't find out how good it is transfering files until Xmas day !

It was ripping a CD in about 7 - 10 minutes which i cannot complain with and gave me a chance to go and get another beer and apease the wife !
