this is my first post. hope someone can help. ok i'm close to break down now. i've installed and reinstalled version 1 of connect a few times and then tried to reinstall the newest version. I get 84% of the way then a box appears telling me that it is optimizing the database files and that it may take several minutes to complete. HA. I left it runnning all day and nothing, it just freezes on this screen. Has anyone else seen this and if so how do you get round it?

Thanks

if you dont have anything in your library yet or don't mind reimporting everything then the best bet is probably to delete out the old library before you reinstall connect.

Just delete everything (or make a backup copy if you want ) of everything under C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\sony corporation ( i think thats the path but i'm not on a pc with connect installed - its elsewhere on these forums anyway )

That way it will build a brand new empty library rather than trying to update the one thats already there

i've tried deleting everything and re-running connect from the disk. the same thing is happening. getting to 84% optimizing and it freezes. this pile of junk will be going back to the shop if I cant get it sorted soon

Use Sonic Stage ver3.3 instead of "Connect" As it is more stable than Connect

The easiest thing to do is to clear both the PC library AND the Walkman library when doing major upgrades (this is one of those times).

You can find the PC library here:

c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\sony corporation\connect player\library

Format the device library here:

On the main menu, settings, Initialize Disk

To remove the "previous" view of the device from the PC, delete this reg key:

HKCU\Software\Sony Corporation\Connect Player\PDApplogic\Profiles

Deleting and formatting in all of the above locations makes the software and device look like a fresh, clean install. This will make the upgrade process as smooth as possible, and will cause you less headache later.
