Audio amplification after Importing CD

Hello All,

A Noob here, just recently purchased a NW-A3000 whilst on holiday in Tokyo, despite all the sh*te reports of the software, i'm like a kid with a new toy (literally!). Just started converting my CD audio collection via SS3 and have had no problems whatsoever, however I have noticed one thing.

Once I've imported all the tracks to my library (using default settings) and then transferred them over to my audio device, when I play them back on the device the sound amplification is quite low and doesn't sound as 'full' as I would have expected.

Therefore, I ripped some of the CDA tracks using both Easy-CD-DA Extractor or EAC to both MP3 (192kb) and WAV format and then imported them into SS3 and then onto the NW-A3000 , the volume on playback was a lot crisper and higher in amplification.

Does anyone have any suggestions on (1) How I can improve the amplification by changing some of the preferences in SS3 or (2) Is it better to rip first using another product and then import, Hard disk space isn't an issue, so if this is the better option (3) Is it better to convert to MP3 or WAV beforehand?

In which Bit rate are you Converting your CD`s into Atrac?

I have also noticed that sound in Mp3files are more Amplified than Atrac files ..

Thanks for the response, orginally I left the default settings in SS3, however I ran a import using CONNECT (originally used SS3 as the CDDB info wasn't being obtained, but a re-install cured that).

I am now running a comparision using the latest Version of Connect, with a import setting of;

'Rip Into this Format' = OpenMG Audio CODEC; ATRACPlus

'Bit Rate' = 128k

Against a EAC Rip into 128kb MP3 and then Import.

I'll let you know if there is any decernable attentuation between the two tracks.

Well after some trial and error I have come to the conclusion that it is better to rip the audio tracks independently and then import into audio device as format = ATRACPlus (192kb).

Orginally the prefences for the file format was ATRACPlus (128kb) on CD Ripping and output to audio device was ATRACPlus (128kb) .

I processed one audio track from a brand new CD twice;

1) Via CONNECT using the default CONNECT prefences for the file format (ATRACPLus 128kb) and then imported onto the NW-A3000

2) Independent CD Rip using EAC as a 192kb MP3 and then imported this into my CONNECT library, amended the preference so that the output file format in CONNECT was ATRACPlus (192kb) and then transferred this to the NW-A3000.

IMHO the output of 192kb ATRACPlus appeared to make the sound appear more amplied and slighly more 'bassy'.

obviously these types of 'unscientific' tests are open to conjure, but I can only go on what my ears tell me and then again it's Christmas Eve and the wine will shortly be kicking in..............................

But you didn`t Rip the Cd to Atrac3 plus 192kpbs directly using Connect..You only Ripped Atrac3 plus 192kpbs..BUT iF you Directly rip ACD using Connect in Atrac3 plus 192kpbs
