Hi

Sorry if this has been covered, I've done a search but come up with nothing.

I have a Sony MZ-N1 for three years and over the past few months, when recording, the unit makes a strange and worrying mechanical noise, like clicking but not quite.

On listening to the recordings, silences appear where the mechanical noises occurred.

What can I do? The problem occurs less when I hold the recorder vertical but this is not the real solution.

I am in Ireland and may have problems accessing a competent repair person.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

If you drop your unit , or its been affected by any machanical shocks ,you maybe ruin(corrupted) the recording mechanism which is directlu above the laser unit and it represent a small electromagnet which (when recording begins) puts itself on the back surface of the disc. You maybe ruin its calibration. Sorry for bad english

Does anyone know of a repair service for portable MDs, preferably in Ireland but the UK is next best?

I supose that the reparing of your Md will be very expensive because the electromagnetic head is not sell seperately , but it comes together with whole laser unit. Suggesting to buy a new one.
