A440
There is no single "best." It depends on how large you want the mic to be and on your budget.Get a pair of omnidirectional or binaural (different name, same mic) microphones that you can separate--not a one-point stereo mic--with a frequency response of 20-20,000K and, if you're recording loud music, a battery module. Think about how you will be placing them--you'll probably want to get small mics with clips, which will give you very realistic stereo if you separate them by the width of your ears, placing them on your glasses, a hat, etc. Here are reliable online sites:www.soundprofessionals.comwww.microphonemadness.com (nice small battery modules)www.core-sound.com EDIT: and www.reactivesounds.com Even the basic Sound Professionals BMC-2 will sound good, and if your budget can take it, the more expensive Audio-Technica-based mics may sound better. All these sites are very helpful if you telephone or e-mail them. Edited November 23, 2005 by A440
