These modes are called MDLP. If your friend bought an older MD-player without MDLP it cannot play the LP2 en LP4 tracks and you only hear silence.So to summarize:- the first MD-models had only SP-stereo and SP-mono recording modi.- later MDLP was added (LP2 and LP4).- after that came Hi-MD with numerous recording-modes.
