Levanel
Quick question: is the data functionality of Hi-MD restricted to only Hi-MD media? Or can regular minidiscs be used to store files, via USB? And does USB conform to the hispeed 2.0 specification?
raintheory
Standard MD discs can be used as well as HiMD discs to store data. Standard MD media holds about 1/3 what HiMD media holds. The time required for the HiMD recorder to physically spin the disc and burn the data makes USB 2.0 speeds impossible. dex Otaku
To elucidate slightly on what raintheory said..Legacy MDs can be used when they are formatted in HiMD mode. One MD80 holds 291MB.The magneto-optical media used by HiMD and MD are too slow themselves to require more than USB 1.1 speeds. The write and read speeds are physically limited by the medium.
