I made a live recording of a show with several tracks. I selected the tracks to copy over. When it got to track 10, It went part way and then gave me Omgjbox.ex has encountered a problem and needs to close and it closed. I opened Sonic Stage and Track 10 was not transfered. It said transfered to HD on the mini disc. I tried again and got the same error. Then I restarted the computer. I tried a third time and the track tranfered. It was 4 min long, but only the first min was sounding if I let it just play. If i ffwd a few seconds I could hear the track again. I tried converting it to wav and only the first min was converted. I tried burning a CD through Sonic stage and only the first min was converted. I renamed the file and tried transfering it again from the HD. It then was deleted from the HD. Is this what the software does?

Any Ideas on how to save this file. All other tracks downloaded ok, but of course this is the one file that was really wanted.

I'm running WIndows XP

I think that what happened is that there was a physical defect on the disc that caused some kind of gap on the recording. But the cause doesn't matter--you need to deal with the effects.

The problem is that you have Version 3.0 of SonicStage. Versions before 3.2 will do what yours did: delete the recording if you try to transfer it a second time. Sadly, it is now gone from the disc. This was one of the nastiest features of the old SonicStage.

Do you still have the file on the computer that plays if you fast-forward it? I hope so. Get Total Recorder from http://www.highcriteria.com/ (It costs $12, it's worth it) and play back the file through SonicStage and record it through Total Recorder, which will record whatever plays through your soundcard. Fast-forward and record the rest of it. You can use the sound editor Audacity (from Downloads) to merge the two pieces into one. Not great, but better than nothing.

For the future, please upgrade to SonicStage 3.3. (From Sony's online installer or from Downloads.) You can then upload the same track any number of times, so this won't happen again.

If there's anything in My Library, then you must use the Backup Tool (in Programs under SonicStage, but not IN SonicStage itself) first, before deleting SonicStage, so that you'll be able to restore your music if anything goes wrong.

Thank you, I was able to recover the song!

Now is this disc bad? Should I throw it away?

I have some regular MD discs, but I thought the recording wouldn't be as good on those.

Also for updating the software. Do you think I need to go to reg edit as suggested by a poster below. I also saw there was a 3.4. Should I update to that? Do you have program you suggest for WAV editing?

I'm so glad you got the song back! That's great.

Both Hi-MD and MD discs are simply storing digital bits. The only difference between recording on Hi-MD discs and recording on an old MD is capacity. If you are recording in Hi-SP, then you can use a regular 80-minute MD for a 2 1/2 hour (approximately) event. If you're recording in PCM, though, the 80-minute MD will give you less than half an hour.

It's hard to say if the disc is bad. You could try connecting via SonicStage and formatting it and starting over with it, or use it for recordings that aren't critical. If I were you, I'd get a new disc just to feel more confident.

Definitely upgrade your SonicStage. 3.0 still has all sorts of restructions that disappear in newer versions.

You shouldn't need to do the regedit uninstall with 3.0.

Just run the Sony online installer and it will automatically remove the parts of 3.0 that get updated. Connect to Sony, turn off any antivirus/ security/ firewall software and try it (don't forget to turn it back on later). If you have problems, then use the offline 3.3 installer in Downloads, or wait until there's a 3.4 installer posted there.

Audacity, in Downloads, is a straightforward free program for .wav editing. Its only quirk is that it will open the .wav (or mp3 or whatever) file, but when you save your edits, it will make an Audacity Projects file (.aup). You have to tell it to Export to .wav when you're done.

A440-I really apreciate all your help-If you're interestd I can send you the song that I recovered.

Sonic Stage 3.4 is a little shaky...

I'm not convinced that the error was due to something on the disc.

When I tried to import a wav created in total recorded. Sonic Stage just froze. I went to task manager and closed the program. It then gave me the Omgjbox.exe error. I tried this several times, and I restarted the computer. Also when I click on the program icon to open the program. It takes a really long time to start and sometimes doesn't open.

Side question. Is sonic stage the best program to convert wav to mp3?

Side question. Is sonic stage the best program to convert wav to mp3?

You might try uninstalling 3.4 and using 3.3 instead, with the off-line installer from Downloads. SonicStage does always take forever to load, but it shouldn't be crashing.

But before you do that: SonicStage needs a lot of computer power. Close programs you don't need--browsers, email, printers--before you run it to deal with a big file. Do you have a fairly fast computer with some free disk space? Are there a lot of things running in the background on Startup? (I had Quicktime, RealPlayer, Adobe and six different apps from my HP printer all loading unnecessarily on startup, for instance). Start/Run/msconfig/Startup lets you see and uncheck what's running automatically on startup--use Google to figure out program names. You can uncheck TotalRecorder scheduler, for instance.

And the only reason to use SonicStage is for transfers to and from minidisc--we're stuck with it for that function. There are better programs for everything else.

For .mp3 conversion (and conversion to and from lots of other formats) get dbpoweramp from Downloads. Or to convert something that's already in My Library, use HiMDRenderer.

And hey, if that song is not too big, attach it to a PM to me or, if you're really happy with it, share it with the world in the Live Recordings gallery. There's no other bassoon music there.

2. My midi files now sound cracky. Could it be total recorder did something?

I hope someone who runs the site can tell you about attachments.

As for 2, yes, Total Recorder could have done something. Go to Settings/Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices and make sure your Default Device for playback is your computer's soundcard rather than Total Recorder (which places itself between the music player and the soundcard). When you want to use Total Recorder again, you may have to switch it, but try it without switching first.
