Have you taken your NW-A3000 apart/know how to?

Question

I got an NW-A3000 for Christmas, and am very happy with it, apart from one thing (no its not the software), the bottom of the front plastic panel. On my NWA this is slightly loose, and as a result there is about a one millimetre gap between the metal band and the edge of the plastic cover (position shown in picture). I might be able to put up with this if it was fixed there, but instead every time I press the 'Back' button, the plastic makes a small creek noise and bends to sit flush on the metal band. When I let go it bends back again. At night you can see the light from the buttons shining through this gap. I find this quite annoying and think it is probably uncommon with NWA's.

Now to the point. I was thinking that if I could take the back cover of the NWA off, then I might be able to secure the front cover down properly. There might be (I wish) a loose screw, but more likely I may have to glue it down. I have read the manual saying how the back cover is supposed to come off, but have no luck using tweezers to remove the Walkman logo metal disc on the back. Does anyone know how to open the back up, or can anyone think how to solve the loose front cover problem? Any advice would be appriciated.

Thanks a ton for the service guide helped a ton! My friend had the same problem with his, he was quick to use "caveman tactics" and just pried off the cover. He broke a couple of clips, and has double sided tape under his now. Thanks to the guide I was able to get mine open  Everything went perfect. I now got a sweet case on order from the UK. I'm going to give a thorough cleaning before putting it back together, just waiting on the case :), I wanna prevent any further dust. Hate to take it apart again if not needed, I was scared outta my mind that i might break something.

If any of you guys need any tips on gettings urs open lemme know,

Jon

that's the only thing i can find in the service manual about taking your nwa3000 apart, and it only tells you how to take the back of and how to replace the battery, maybe i'm wrong, can you give me a screenshot of the manual where it says how to take the front of?

Please:

Could anyone tell me you to remove the ornament (1st Step) ?

Greets Jonny

i did it with a knife

can you post how to get the front of as soon as you found out how?

Well the first step is really the hardest cause its strong adhesive after all its meant for a clip and you want it just falling off. I looped a string through and pulled really hard, that loosened it up a lot. Then i was able to just prie it off with my finger nail. From there its pretty straight forward, the tiny screws can be an issue if you don't got tools I had to use the tip of a really sharp knife. The sheets are very delicate, i broke one  . I also lost one screw. So its pretty obvious that i went inside (voided warrenty). The next thing you might be confused about is the other sheets on the side, just find where they are (refer to diagram) and a sewing needle can be used to prie those out (lever action). From there the front panel comes off no problem. Putting together is pretty obvious from there. Try not to get rid of any adhesive in the original step. I didn't take off the buttons, didn't feel reason to, whiping works fine IMO.

As for cleaning i'm not too sure. Its quite delicate inside the front cases, they scratch quite easy. Plus the "spotty dust areas" were unable to be removed in mine (on edges of the buttons,. Never the less it looks a lot better now. I used contact/glasses cleaner for mine with my psp cloth. If you guys got any other good advice let me know. I also got a silicon case for mine, good for keeping dust out since it covers the sides. Not only that but it covers poorly cleaned areas. I plan to take mine apart again soon, and try some stronger chemicals. If anyone has some good advice for anything or would like to add let me know.

I wish i knew about the new sony mp3 that recently came out :(. Those are nice, plus they have silicon and plastic cases available from sony. The 6 gigs is kinda unneeded, realistically you'll never listen to all those songs. A 1-2 gig is best IMO. This MP3 has given me too much anger, I like stuff looking good and this dissapointed me with dust problems. Plus the lack of accessories available, plus the cases from sony have no button access kinda pointless.
