"Computer memory company Sandisk on Thursday introduced a collection of tiny digital music players and said it plans to challenge Apple Computer for dominance in the "flash" memory player market. "

"At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Sandisk introduced a 6GB player made with flash memory--chips that are smaller and lighter than hard disk drive technology memory and also have no moving parts. The Sansa e270 player is expected to cost about $300US."

It will be interesting to see what sort of music transfer system they use.

This could force Sony to bring out a larger capacity A600 series player (hopefully) but could lead to the end of the NWA1000 (sob) too.

With the crappy firmware they're (currently) packing, good luck and good night. It's slower than a 486 trying to encode MP3s for goodness sakes, and they're going to challenge the almighty iPod?

Most likely, they'll employ drag and drop functionality with WMA PlaysForSure-Janus DRM Scheme.

That Sansa e200 looks really interesting. If I were in the market for a new mid-capacity player, Sandisk's 6GB of flash memory + loads of features including an expansion slot would make it my top contender, ahead of Samsung, Apple's Nano, or just about anyone else.
