Pete F
Matt of Minidisco suggested I post this question to the experts in this forum...I have an opportunity to buy a used Sony home MD deck. However, the unit isa model from overseas (UK) which operates on 220 volts. I know that by usinga 110V to 220V transformer I would be able to power the unit but I'mconcerned about the European 50Hz versus the North American 60Hz powercycle. Could this affect the proper operation of the deck? The deck is aSony MDS-JB940.Thanks in advance for any comments or suggestions.
chris_caudy
I don't think the frequency difference (50-60Hz) will cause any significant effects. I'd be extremely surprised if the deck used the mains frequency for any sort of reference. I don't have a service manual for the MDS-Jb940 but I'd hazard a guess that only the mains transformer and possibly any mains input filtering would be the difference between a UK and a USA model. Incidentally the UK now operates a 230v 50Hz mains supply, the voltage was dropped from 240v some years ago.
