Diamond Jim
Can I use a 5-pin Mini-B USB cable instead of what comes with a Sony MZN420DI bought the Sony on ebay and it came with nothing but the unit. I've downloaded everything I think I need but my computer doesn't recognized it. I bought the above cable but it still doesn't work. I have SonicStage 3.4 and Simple Burner and I think I have the required Driver installed. What the heck am I doing wrong

If it does the problem is more than likely software (could be tricky ... )Try the cable with another USB device, eg camera, or even connect the MD plus cable into another PC and see what happens. It is possible you may have an old version of the driver programs which came out before the N420D - it appears to have come out around the time of Sonic Stage 2.0.Recent drivers are available on this forum. A while back I had a similar problem with my JB980 deck where I actually need an _older_ version of the driver file, and someone here very kindly helped me out which got me up and running. If it is something "complicated" we may need more information about your setup, eg Windows version, etcHope this helps. Because I didn't have the disk for the software I thought perhaps I haven't gotten the correct driver. I will check this site for the proper one.Does the disk have only the music managment programs or does it have the proper driver as well?I glad the USB cable should be the right one because SONY wants $47 for a replacement!!!Robbery. You seem to be sold on SONY MD products, I hope I can get this puppy working. If you can think of anything else I might try feel free to contact me.I'm running Windows 2000 Pro

They said they were "read only"Does this mean they were NOT applied?( my computer still doesn't read the device)
A440
I think read only means your computer can read/run them but can't tamper with them. Have you tried installing them? And what driver files have you downloaded, from where? Edited April 9, 2006 by A440
