bayoubilly
I want a high quality versatile mic for recording different types of music (from acoustic to a band). i thinking of spending around 100$.so far i've been thinking aboutAT2020AT-PRO24 - i'll brobably get one of these eventually anyway for a high quality portable mic.the only mic i have right now are the in-ear ones.i don't know if the AT2020 is stereo but i want a stereo mic that has a cable that can plug into the recorder. i know some mics have the big plug that i'd need an adapter for or something. A440
The AT2020 looks like a mono mic for recording a single instrument. It's cardioid, which means it's directional. So you'll get a mono signal (or possibly just the left channel) with no room ambience at all. It's not versatile: it's made to do one thing, which is isolate the sound of a single instrument. The Pro24 is a stereo mic. Its frequency response only goes down to 100 Hz, so you won't get the bottom two octaves of bass. It's also a one-point mic, so you won't get much stereo separation. A good price from Soundprofessionals, though: http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/...&source=froogleIf you're using the SoundPros in-ear mics, they might well sound better than either of these for recording live bands.
