krieger
I have a Sony HiMD recorder, MZ RH910. When you adjust the gain manually, you get these numbers like 23 or 14. Depending on whether it is High or Low sensitivity, they seem to be separated by 10 units. That is H14=L24. In any case, does anyone know how many deciBels separate each unit. I think it is one unit=one dB gain, but I am not at all sure. Could you write me directly at my email address below as well as post. Thank you.Martin KriegerKrieger@usc.edu Edited May 19, 2006 by krieger

I don't think the relationship between manual gain vs. the setting itself [1-30] is in decibels, but I could be wrong. The difference in gain between low-sens and high-sens is an additional 20dB. ermine
This is measured for a NH-700 on http://www.wildlife-sound.org/equipment/hi...evels_meas.html, and the design of the hiMD recorders preamps seems to be similar across several models. That measures the input level required to achieve full scale 0dBFS Edited May 19, 2006 by ermine
