NE410, N505 MD players, questions about both?

I own an NE410 NetMD player.

I used to own a N505 NetMD player.

I've made tons of disks for the latter, and they worked fine on the N505. I'm trying to use those same exact discs for the NE410, and it refuses to play some of the tracks.

Is it possible/known if the NE410 is "outdated" and cannot play certain mp3 file types that are on discs? Or if the N505 can play special types/more types than the NE410?

The NE410 actually came after the N505; it was a further price-reduced model and can't even do line-in recording, which the N505 could. Discs made in the N505 will play in any MDLP capable unit, whether it came before or after. (By the way, the files are no longer MP3's once they are recorded onto the MD; they're converted to Sony's ATRAC3 format. So there's no difference in file type between different songs).

Either 1) your N505 was out of adjustment when it recorded the discs, or 2) your NE410 is faulty. I suspect the latter. Have you tried erasing a disc and re-recording it in the 410?

By the way, I have a silver N505 laying around someplace, unused for a long time, that I'd be willing to sell you for cheap. PM me if interested.

Well, if it was out of adjustment when it recorded it, how come it works in the N505 still?

also, yeah, i'm 100% sure it's the NE sucking. Should the NE take like a full 45 seconds to a minute to load most songs?

btw, i've tried both fully blank discs + my old discs to record onto/play; neither work.

do you think it could be the sonic-stage version? I remember using one that started up that came with the 505; the one that came with the 410 is 1.0 sonic stage, and i upgraded to 4; 4 let me upload as many as I wanted, but only of certain types. so maybe it's that?

(the sonicstage that came with the 505 let me use 99% of my mp3's, and 99% of them worked (i know it converts to ATRAC3, but i'm saying they converted+transfered; my problem is they'll convert, but not transfer) on the 505, but on the 410, more than 50% of them will only convert but not transfer)

Because the N505 was the unit that recorded it. If the track pitch or some other idiosyncrasy unique to the N505 was off, chance are better that it would play back in the unit it originated from (i.e., the 505) as opposed to another unit with (presumably) different adjustments. Like I said, I just think your NE410 is probably a piece of crap. It might have a bad optical pickup, a poor drive mechanism, a buggy EPROM, etc.

It does sound like there's some software issues possibly going on here as well. Have you tried using Simple Burner instead of SS? Make an audio CD disc image of your MP3 files, then mount the image as a virtual drive (Nero works). You'll then "see" the virtual CD in Simple Burner and will be able to transfer it to the unit sans SonicStage. I'm not sure this will make a difference, though.
