DC Adaptor for MZ-N510?

Hi,

Unfortunately I wasn't given the power adaptor when I bought my minidisc player second hand. Ordering in a new adaptor from Sony is expensive, so I need the specification for the adaptor to buy the right one (it might blow up if I plug in the wrong type!)

I have worked out that my model, the MZ-N510 requires a 3V 500mA DC adaptor. Does anyone know if the adaptor is regulated or nonregulated, and what the polarity is? Would using a 1A adaptor break the minidisc player?

Also, I would just like to confirm, is there any way of getting my recordings from the line-in or optical-in onto my computer via the USB? (This isn't a Hi-MD player.) Thanks.

A universal adapter with 1A is fine. The MD unit will draw what it needs. Just don't get one that has less of an amp rating than what you need. Watch out for Volts and polarity. You can check polarity by looking at the unit. It is printed right next to the DC jack. I use a universal adapter I got at Walmart with no problems.

I also have a universal adapter from RadioShack only because I have MD units that need 3V and 6V. If you don't want to go universal, you can also try looking for the Sony AC-E30A worldwide 3V DC adaptor - it's pretty small. I've seen it in electronics stores like Frys and BestBuy for US$20.

As far as I know, your N510 can't upload to computer. Looking at the pinned topics at the top of the forum should give you the confirmation for which you're looking. Try the pinned thread called "Uploading information for confused users: Want to upload audio from your NetMD?"

Jaylen is correct. The N510 is NetMD so no uploads via USB. You can do realtime recordings via USB with marcnet's program and it helps to title tracks if they are already titled. Your other option is to get a RH1 so you can upload your legacy recordings.

Thanks for your replies. I still to need to know, does the minidisc player require a regulated adaptor or is a non-regulated adaptor fine? Regulated means, I think, that the voltage output is kept at a constant rate, no matter how much current the unit is drawing.
