Cannot rip CDs in Connect

Help, Connect is being a pain in the ass as per usual. When I try to rip CDs, the button changes to a cancel button, the artist and album information dissapears and nothing happens. Also, the cancel button doesn't work.

At first I suspected this was the work of copyright protection but it seems to be doing the same for all my CDs (well, the two I have tried so far!).

Well, I'll wait till the next to release, if it's still unbearable then I'll switch.

I found the root of the problem, my external hard drive wasn't switched on. I thought I would do something good for the environment so I decided to switch my PC off from the mains, that is why.
