Charger help (voltage/amp)

Hi guys,

I own an older MZ-R30 MD recorder that was from Japan and came with a japanese charger (that I used a transformer for Aussie powerpoints). Today I accidently plugged it straight into the wall with no transformer and the charger blew.

I was wondering if I can use my charger from my MZ-RH1 to charge it?

My MZ-R30 says on it "DC: 6V external DV supply"

The JDM charger says "output : DC 6V 800mA"

and "input AC 100V 50/60Hz 12VA"

The MZ-RH1 charger says "output : DC 5V - 800mA"

and "input AC 100-240V ~ 50/60Hz 10-14VA 6W"

Now I dont have a degree in electrical physics but the inpout shouldnt matter as it's to do with what the transformer can take from the power point. This means the output of the transformer is important.

Power = Voltage x Amps

If the MZ-RH1 charger produces less Voltage than the MD can handle it should be safe as the amps are the same for both chargers....

Can anyone please confirm if this will work? Dont want to fry my MZ-RH1 charger.

Help would be appreciated!

In a word, no.

The RH1 connection is a USB mini 5 pin. The R30 has an entirely different connection.

The R30 has voltage regulators in the input but it is expecting 6 volts. It may not charge the battery.

Since you would have to cut the end off the RH1 charger and put a different connector on it, and then (I assume) get a second RH1 charger to fit your RH1, why not just get a charger to fit your R30 ?

Most 6 volt Sony (or those designed to fit Sony) with a 800 ma or greater output would work. The R50 and those for their radios work. Radio Shack has models with connectors that will work.
