The service manuals (available from the downloads section)on page 25 indicate that the part you are after is a Cabinet (top) 2-595-376-01. It seems to be the same for both E400/500 series. Hopefully you would be able to order one from Sony.

That is an interesting parts site.

The inner cabinet ($13USD) is the coloured part so it would be possible to swap colours.

E400 2595375-01/11/21/31 Red/Blue/Black/Green

E500 2596548-01/11/21/31 Silver/Blue/Pink/Green (no Gold listed !!!)

does the lid change the color of the OLED screen or is that the OLED screen itself? in the case of the latter, if you change the inner cabinet, and leave the OLED screen, u can get different writing color to player color combination =D (pink writing on blue screen or vice versa? ^^)

Sony is using White OELD so if you put Pink or Green colour lid over it will definately show different colour if you put different colour lid.

your for sure wrong, they are using oringial OLED NATURAL true. Green will be blue words, pink will be blue, silver willl be blue, violet will be blue, the light leaks through very very extemely strong. its blue and always blue for this model.

aww, so it is a white color OLED thats seen through a colored cover? aww, thats no fun

its not white. look at my other reply to the guy that said its white. he is wrong. if u take everything apart is is blue because that is OLED natural true color. it could be other colors but this model player is always blue they keed the natural color. trust me on this. ive opened it and its blue through no cover no matter what and ive understand OLED on the web already.

@Skyline :Thanks for correcting me out .Even I 've opened my E505 it looks white thats why i said that .

Color – The reliability of the OLED is still not up to par. After a month of use, the screen becomes nonuniform. Reds, and blues die first, leaving a very green display. 100,000 hours for red, 30,000for green and 1,000 for blue. Good enough for cell phones, but not laptop or desktop displays.

Ooh, so my idea should work?

If I take a different color inside cover, I'll be able to get (say) a pink or green cover with blue text underneath...?

yes, absolutely. the text will always be blue. its very strong blue light and will go through the cover. if u take everything out, ull see with no cover, the OLED is blue, not white.

wth? its white for you? ive never seen a white text one b4. what country is yours? japan us, uk..?

actually Stuge is right about "if you put a color cover, then the light will be that color too" but hes wrong that the light is white, its actually blue like i said. But it is reasonable for the color shining through to take the cover's color. I know for sure the NW-e40X models change color. But my NW-e507, i havent seen any on the internet where the color changes. so yeah, stuge is right on one half and im right on the other.
