Any Advice for a Misbehaving MZ-R500?

Hello,

I've been getting into recording with my MZ-R500 using a Boostaroo mic I bought recently. Everything was working great, and then I returned from a backpacking trip and the MZ-R500 started to misbehave. I didn't use it on the trip, and it did kick around a little, although it was sealed in a ziplock the whole time.

When I turn it on it spins up with the normal sounds, but then keeps spinning at a low rate, and after 30 seconds or so stops with "ERROR" on the display.

I ran it in test mode, and the status code indicated "Servo system error: Focus error (Disordered focus)." So I opened it up and cleaned the lense with lense paper and a special moist towlette for laptop screens. No luck, same behavior.

I've also tried whacking it a few times, heh.

If all hope is lost, then I'm looking maybe for an inexpensive solid state recorder that has a line-in for my boosteroo, maybe?

Cheers,

- Daniel
