is the net md recorder mz-n510ck compatible with any microphones?

it only has a line-in and the manual does not mention using a mic. i have seen alot of mics on the market with bettery packs in-line, but the only one i have tried is the Sony ECMMS907 (which has a single AA in the mic)

when i used this mic i had to set the line in level to max and the recording still came out with a low vol. i emailed a sony rep and they said i cant use this mic with my unit. why is this? are all powered mics the same as far as signal output? i dont know much about this stuff, i just need to either find a mic i can use with my line-in, or get a different unit that has a mic-in. i wish i new about this before i bought it, but my friend told me that the powered mics work fine with line-in so i believed him.
