Sony Connect mentioned on BBC Radio 1's Newsbeat

Question

News of Sony's unstable Connect software was mentioned on Radio 1's Newsbeat this morning. They said to revert to an older version of the software, which is incorrect information really. Perhaps they'll do a more detailed news story on Sony in the 15 min slot this lunchtime / evening.

Me, I have no sympathy for Sony. The software is worse than any beta software I've ever got my hands on and it was a full public release so it was bound to have some effect on Sony's dwindling reputation.

MP3 walkman problems

Sony's admitted the latest software for their MP3 Walkman is playing up. It's making some computers slow right down and crash. If it's happening to you, the advice is to remove the software and use an older version instead.

Windows Xp was also like this before the release Service pack 1.Full of Bugs .

> connect for most doesnt work at best.

Do you have data to back up that statement? I suspect not. I'd be willing to bet that Connect Player works for more people than otherwise.

I have installed CP on three totally separate machines. Two of them are quite old and lowly specified. It works without a hitch on all three machines.

That's a 100% success rate. Totally different machines, but all run up to date XP. One important point, though, is that there is a definite need to restart the machine after installation, even though it doesn't explicitly tell you to do so. If you don't do this, it hangs when you connect your device for the first time. A swift restart solves that.

Granted, it's obviously buggy, and Sony has recognised this. But to say that it doesn't work for most is just useless speculation.

What format are your tracks stored in? and howmany track do you have?

I have 8000+ mp3 tracks (ripped from my own collection using audiograbber) and connect outright refuses to work. I waisted 3 hours with it yesterday before giving up and loading Sonic Stage 3.3

yes I heard the news, weird thing is the day before I gave up with SonicStage 3.3 as a bad job, and tried connect. It's far from perfect (speed ad functionality) but it does actually do the job ok wthout errors and is better than SS IMHO. (using NW-A3000, windows xp, mx of mp3 and atrac files)
