Faulty Mic? Sony ECM-DS70P

I just purchased a MZ-M200 for field recordings, so I'm not sure what to expect from the included mic but I think it must be faulty. The first thing I noticed was with the mic plugged directly into the MD recorder the slightest touch of the recorder would create a distinctive ringing sound. Almost sounded like the mic was in a glass bottle. When I later attached the extension cord this only made things worse. Any flexing of the cord, lightly tapping the cord or if the cord was not perfectly still this ringing sound would persist. Has anyone else had this type of experience? Is this an inherent problem with the ECM-DS70P or did I just get a dud? I've attached a sample of lightly tapping the flexible cord which connects to the mic. Thanks for the help![attachmentid=2080]
