Any way to overcome "no Line Out while remote is used"?

I have recently joined the Forum and have commited to purchase the RH1 as my MZ-R3 replacement. Upon looking at the User maual, I came across a limitation that confused me. (See tile above...)

Here is my situation, I would like to use my Grado headphones with this new unit. Maybe I am underestimating the playback on this unit, but I wanted to bypass ALL signal processing by utilizing the Line Out. If I plugged my phones into the jack (set to Line Out) would this be accomplished? The manual states that you should not do this as the sound would be too loud! I am used to having to put a headphone amp in-line to get the Line Out level to a respectable level. (and I want to use the remote while I'm mobile!)

Also, I am interested in getting back into recording so I plan on getting a set of the Sound Pro's in-ear mics. In regards to the need for a battery box when recording events with high SPLs, how different is a BB from a headphone amp? Meaning, could the two be interchanged based on usage? (I know, I know...this is probably a REALLY dumb question. But I honestly would like to know. Is it impedance issues, voltage issues, etc.?)

I'm excited to get my RH1 in my hands and I would like to not fry it by hooking it up wrong. So, I emplore you good people to illuminate me.

Thanks for your time,

Bryan

Line out isn't a separate jack on the RH1. It's a software switch that removes any effects/EQ and maxes the volume. You can do the same, and have the unit treat it as a headphone output, by....removing any effects and maxing the volume. There's a Normal EQ that doesn't apply any processing.

I have Grado SR125 phones, and I regularly plug them into the headphone jack or remote and get decent volume. If you're rocking some very power hungry Grados, just plug your headphone amp into the headphone jack.

A battery box isn't an amplifier/preamp. It's a power supply. It sends power to the mics that broadens their dynamic range--they can handle higher volumes without overloading. It also boosts the signal going into Line-in just enough--not to the extent a preamp would. Which is a good thing, because boosting the signal of a loud concert means clipping. It works, is all I can tell you.

When I had someone build a Cmoy headphone amp for me, I immediately asked your "dumb question" about using it as a mic preamp too. He just said it wouldn't work--unfortunately I didn't get the technical explanation. Of course I tried it anyway, running into both line-in and mic-in, and....nothing. No mic signal came through.

I know your budget is hurting for the RH1, but bite the bullet and get the battery module too. You won't regret it.

Oh, I'm sure I will. Especially after listening to some of the fantastic recordings that some of the Forum members (including yourself) have made.

I've gone to the Vangard and I can say that you "captured the genie in a bottle"! Great stuff!

While I was aware that the headphone and Line-Out were the same jack, I was wondering if switching to Line Out would bypass everything (preamp, DAC, EQ, DSP...) But you say go with the jack set to headphone, O.K. by me.

I too own the 125s. I purchased them approx. 2 weeks ago and I've had a hard time taking them off! I have been hypnotized by the ammount of detail those cans throw at me! B)

Thanks again for taking the time to answer my questions. I'm really glad I came across this group. I hope to be able to contribute more than questions in the near future. Maybe some of my classical double-bass recordings will make it into the download section.

Until then, wish me luck on my purchases. I'll give you the scoop when I get set up.

Kind regards,

Bryan
