mineroller
OK...im using English XP Pro..proably like many of you out there..My SS refused to display any of my Korean songs correctly in library..Since my system is already set up as non-Unicode Korean, APPLOCALE does not work here..i believe some other people already had same experience..and gave up on using any of their chinese/japanese/korean songs..I have spent days and days trying everything from registry to whatever..with no luck..searching forums for days..But a simple thought stroke my mind and ..surprisingly..it works..I am not 100% sure if this is what makes SS detect languages..but..If you just change your "Locale" from Region/Langauge settings in XP to the right country, (Standard/Formats, and Location thing..the first tab)in my case Korea, with standard settings to Korean, SS now displays everything perfectly. Keep in mind that you DO need the registry edit AND setting Non-Unicode programs too. After doing all these, change the Locale settings, and it should display your letters properly. Let me know if it's true, or if my computer seems to be smoking pot.
pata2001
Well, that only fix 1 language, in your case, korean. If you have multiple songs like Japanese, Korean, Chinese, all in your library, SS cannot show all of them. You have to change and restart windows every single time to transfer the tracks with the specific language. That's just unacceptable, considering there is a solution called unicode, that's been used by other software (eg. iTunes) for a while already. Having to edit registry just to allow the display of asian characters is just unacceptable. See my sig for details.
