How's everybody?

After reading as a guest for a few months I decided to sign up and post my question.

I saw one other person with the same problem, but it was awhile ago and maybe things have changed a bit.

Anyway, when i record in Hi-MD format it seems fine until I go to stop the recording. Then it does the standard steps, data save then system file writing, etc. But it never comes out of sytem file writing. It will do this for about 30-35 min. and then give back the rec error message. This is regardless of the REC mode, hisp hilp PCM.

Funny thing is that if I record in the MD format, it writes the file to the disc just fine, but the playback is nothing more than silence.

I am in no way an expert in MD or Hi-MD technology, but I tried to erase and reformat some of my discs and record onto those to no avail. I also got into the service mode (didn't touch a damn thing, too scary) to see if that would perhaps reset some of the factory settings, but that didn't work either. I'm out of options here. I don't mistreat the unit at all. I don't ever remember dropping it or exposing it to harsh conditions but yet it won't record for me. Thats pretty much all I use it for so without that capability it's just a fancy paperweight.

Has anyone heard of this?

Has anyone heard of a factory reset for the whole unit?

Any hacks that might help? (which by the way was interesting to watch)

Otherwise I have a fairly new, gently used MD player for sale.

Thanks for any help.
