Bulk microphone cable?

Hi, all. In the quest for better sound for my MD, I've been bitten by the mic-building bug. I've put together a couple of samples using Radio Shack electret capsules, and I've got some better quality capsules coming in the mail. This forum has been an awesome resource - thanks to everyone.

For cable I've been cannibalizing patch cords - I have some lovely small gauge single conductor shielded cable in a rubber sheath from a Sony cord.

But surely there has to be a better way. I've been searching Digikey for shielded cable and most of what I get back is twisted pair cable that's used in networking and telephone systems.

Does anyone know of a source for bulk shielded cable, or is it most economical to buy the longest extension cable at Radio Shack and chop?

I've been buying cables at the Shack and hacking those. I like the fact the plug is already attached, but I also can't help but think there's a better quality cable out there.
