sunking101
Blimey is this hard work! I've just bought a new pc and want to transfer my 20GB library of ATRAC files from my old pc. This is proving harder than anticipated...I've tried the backup tool, it said that dvd+RW discs aren't acceptable. Great, I just spent a tenner on them. Now I need to know, what's the best method to do this transfer? The details retrieved from 'properties' of my SonicStage program are:SonicStage : 3.4.01.13062SonicStage Add-on for Personal Audio Download : 3.4.00.12140OpenMG Secure Module : 4.4.00.11241MagicGate Memory Stick Device : 4.4.00.11241NW-E2, NW-E3, NW-E5 and NW-E8P : 4.4.00.11241OpenMG CD : 4.4.00.11241M.S. PRO : 4.4.00.11241CD Walkman : 4.4.00.11241Hi-MD : 4.4.00.11241Music Clip, NW-S4, NW-E7 and NW-E10 : 4.4.00.11241HDWM : 4.4.00.11241Net MD : 4.4.00.11241EMD Plug-in: 1.2.0.9CD-R Writing Module(Audio CD/ATRAC CD/MP3 CD) : 3.4.00.12140Px Engine: 2.4.35.500(I don't know if the above helps at all)Anyway, are there any other discs I can use - I realise CDRs will be far too small. Can I join my two pcs together somehow? Other than that, I am prepared to buy a cheap external hard drive but need to be sure this transfer is going to work before I do that!I've read horror stories of people not being able to transfer their libraries full stop! How can this be true? People DO change their computers, the fact is I own every single compact disc that I've loaded to my library and none are CDRs and no tracks are downloads. Why shouldn't I be able to move my songs from one pc to another? I have over 500 albums, I sincerely hope I don't have to upload every single one again! That will take me days!So please kind people, can you advise me? Thanks in advance!
Ishiyoshi
Welcome to MDCF! This is most peculiar. Sony claims that removable media such as CD-R/CD-RW, DVD+R/ DVD+RW, and DVD-R/ DVD-RW can be used as backup media for SonicStage Backup Tool. Concerning your present music library registered with SonicStage, are they 100% DRM free? If they are, you can simply copy them over to a new external HDD. I maintain a large ATRAC library via an external HDD and it works just fine with any desktops and notebooks that has SonicStage installed. I don't understand it either as it does say DVDrws are acceptable in the help pages. On another note, how can I find out if the tracks in my library are DRM free? Thanks. Ishiyoshi
how can I find out if the tracks in my library are DRM free? Thanks.Right-click on a ATRAC3/ATRAC3plus music file within SonicStage, then select properties and review the "Rights Info/Additional Info" tab of "Track Properties" as shown below. For your reference, you can choose not to add copy protection when you import a CD. sunking101
Right, I've got you. Just checked that and all is ok. If one track is ok does that mean the others will be, it would take me hours to check every one? Assuming everything is A-ok, how do I go about this transfer now then? (Ruling DVD-RWs out of the equation)
Ishiyoshi
If you have an unused external HDD, I would copy your entire ATRAC library over. Then re-import selected or your entire music library into the new PC with SonicStage installed (preferably with the latest version of SonicStage). Naturally, as a precaution do not delete your existing library (in the old PC) untill you can discern that all is well with the new PC setup. For your reference, our sister forum - ATRACLife - has a SonicStage Backup Tool FAQ should you decide to utilize the tool. This is what you should do for now: save the entire library to an external HDD and remember to leave the setup in your old PC intact for now. install the latest version of SonicStage (SonicStage CP 4.2). If you have other non-MD ATRAC devices (i.e. Network Walkman), do consider installing SonicStage of Asia-Pacific or JEB to avoid the cumbersome “re-initialization” process for your Network Walkman device. either maintain your new library in an external HDD or copy the library over to your new PC if capacity is not an issue. Accordingly, import selected or entire library via your newly installed SonicStage CP 4.2 in the new PC. Naturally, import time is relative to the size of your music library.Once again, the process as a whole is relatively easy and it will work as long as your library consists of DRM free tunes. I have a VAIO desktop and several VAIO notebooks sharing a single external ATRAC library without any issue. So, from my experience, I can guarantee that this method will work. I can't even locate it on my hard drive!SonicStage's default folder for tracks imported from CDs or converted files is located in "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\SonicStage\Packages\". For your reference, you can assign your own folder by going to "Tools" --> "Options" --> "Location to save imported files" (as shown below). With regard to what you said about putting SonicStage onto my new pc, I don't understand the Asia-Pacific/JEB bit and the cumbersome "re-initiliazation" process. I have a Sony NWA3000 Walkman, can you explain which version of SonicStage I should load and where I can download it from? Many thanks in advance! The version on my old pc and the version through which I created my library is 3.4.01.13062

The flash memory remains intact if I remember correctly. Regardless, this is indeed very cumbersome as the user will be forced to re-transfer or rebuild the music library of the ATRAC device in question.Download links to SonicStage CP 4.2 of JEB or Asia-Pacific versions can be acquired from this thread.
