Justin42
Ugh, was just trying to check one song out before bed and get myself into a 2 hour troubleshooting hell.I tried to simply open SonicStage on my computer. It goes for a few seconds and then pops up the dreaded "Cannot locate the files required to open the database file. Exiting SonicStage. (Error Code: 00005e30)". I know this is the MDAC repair problem, but the thing is, nothing is working to fix it.It is SonicStage version 4.0 (I know, a bit old) but has been working fine for months. I haven't used it in a while (about 4-6 weeks, based on when the latest files I transferred from HiMD are dated), and have had to reinstall Office due to some quirks (it wouldn't update properly through Microsoft Update, but that is fixed now) which I am afraid has had something to do with my problem.I've tried the MDAC repair tool, I've tried reinstalling MDAC, I've tried the "right click on MDAC.INF and reinstall" methods, and nothing is changing, I am getting the same error every time I try to start SonicStage. I tried running the Jet reinstaller but it said the current version I am running is newer than the one in the update (!? must be due to a patch, since I'm downloading the 4.0SP8 file for XP SP2)Would attempting to install SonicStage 4.2 possibly help? I am a bit worried that it will only make things worse.I do have antivirus and antispyware apps running, but they always have been running in the past with SonicStage and it's fine. I've tried it without them running and it still doesn't working.I do not have the MD unit attached to the computer when trying to start SonicStage.I've tried reverting to a backup of my system partition from a few days ago but that doesn't seem to improve anything, either. I'm hesitant to go too much farther back and maybe break other stuff I'm not thinking about right now. This is actually the first critically bad problem I've had with SonicStage, which isn't bad, but it's very frustrating right now especially since this seems to be such a common problem with a pretty simple solution, most of the time. System is running Windows XP SP2, Pentium D 830, 2GB RAM.. no hardware or major software changes lately, except for the re-install of Office that I mentioned before.Any help would be greatly appreciated!!Edit to add-- I found the Log files which don't give me a ton of info but it may help. It looks like the last time I used SonicStage successfully was Feb. 21, 2007. Now, it logs the following every time I start up. It's almost making me think something in the registry is screwed up more than anything, for some reason, although it's a wild guess:[2007/03/20(00:48:00.453)] CAppJukeboxImp::OnStart() : m_pSsDbManTh->GetSsDbManFromGlobal()...Failed Edited March 21, 2007 by Ishiyoshi
Justin42
Well, all that, and an upgrade in place to SonicStage 4.2 seems to have fixed the problem. (Which I had meant to do sometime soon anyway) Maybe something in the Office re-install just broke 4.0's current install and putting a new SonicStage on made it re-adjust somehow... (or maybe one of the critical MDAC security updates broke 4.0 somehow..)I haven't tested it fully but it started and is playing music, so that's a major improvement. I am too late to work to try anything else!! Edited March 20, 2007 by Justin42
