CarolinePiercy
Hello Everyone,Sorry if these questions are answered elsewhere...I am recording interviews with two people at once. I have MZ-NH700 and two SONY mono electret microphones ECM-C10.First question, (for my purposes - analysing speech sounds) I need the sound wave to not be compressed at all or if it is as little as possible. Am I right that I need to record in PCM mode? I only have MDs to record onto not HI-MDs.Second question, after I have recorded the speakers I transrcibe the recordings. I sometimes have trouble with this as sometimes the people sound very similar! I was wondering if there was anyway of recording in two channels to make the task a bit easier? Thanks for your help...Best wishes,Caroline
KJ_Palmer
You can record in PCM on 'normal' MDs with your NH700. Just make sure you choose Hi-MD mode from the Option - Disc Mode menu on the recorder, and PCM from the REC Set - REC mode menu. You can record 'seperately' to the two channels with your mono mics by using a mono - stereo splitter and place the mics close to each interviewee. There will be some overlaps in the recording, but should be more separation than usual. Something like a SonyECM MS907 stereo mic should also give some left-right separation.Hope that helps. raintheory
Depending on how long the interviews are, you may need to use Hi-SP, which should be superb quality for voice recordings.Standard MiniDiscs will only hold about 28min of PCM, versus 2h 20min of Hi-SP.
