jlpera
Hello,I have been reading all of the posts about .hma files and conversion to audio files and would like someone's advice/opinion. Unfortunately, I too made the mistake of using windows explorer to drag and drop files from the disk player. I have three disks with interviews on them. What's strange is that one of them can still be read by the disk player and I can hear my audio recordings. The other two give me the "Cannot play or record" message when I put them back into my disk player. I have not reformatted the disks or erased the files. When I connect the player to Sonic Stage, it shows space on the disk as being used, but I cannot get access to the files b/c they are not being recognized by Sonic Stage or my sony RH910 player. However, last night when I was putting the disks into the disk player I got a prompt on my disk player asking me if I wanted to convert them to audio files...I clicked no as I didn't want to convert them at all for risk of damaging them. Maybe I should have clicked yes? Is there any way to get to this menu again? It came up after I got the "Cannot play or record message"I have talked to someone at Sony (U.S. office, guy named Ed) who told me that they now have the software to try and recover files from disks. I can send my disks in and they can try but they only have a 50% success rate. I'm weary to send in the only disks I have with these files. The files are on my computer, but I now know that hma files transferred directly (without using SonicStage) cannot be converted into audio format.Does anyone have other ideas for me to try before I send these disks off to Sony? Again, SonicStage shows the disks as having data on them just will not list the files. I really need these files to finish my thesis! Please help! Thank you for your time! A440
Sony was able to get the data off a "Cannot Record or Play" disc I had, which doesn't guarantee they will be able to do the same for you. Sent back both the old disc (still unreadable) and a new one with playable files. I'd give Sony a try. If Sony can't read it, no one can.And in future: Upload immediately, and then run File Conversion Tool with "Add Copy Protection" unchecked to give you unencrypted files.
