Native MP3..which models support it

I seem to remember that some models of Hi MD supported native MP3..ie SS did not have to convert thr MP3 to ATRAC ...which were those and does it work ok ?? Thanks

was just thinking that it would speed transfer of some of my stuff which is in MP3

You still need to transfer the mp3's via SonicStage, and the 2nd gen units seem to have "dull" playback of mp3 compared to Atrac, the RH1 doesn't have this shortcoming.

as well even on the ist generation when they are made atractive they still sound pretty good, done painlessly thru SS

I'm not sure what generation the M100 is, but it plays .mp3s just fine.

The M100 is based on the RH10, same as the M10 is based on the RH910. All these are second-generation units, so they have crippled MP3 playback. And don't forget the DH710, which is also a second generation unit, a downloader based on the RH710.

As for fast transfer - the RH1 transfers faster than any unit before it. Same as the M200, which is based on it. Both have normal MP3 playback, and support 32, 44.1, and 48 kHz sampling frequencies for MP3, while second generation units support 44.1 kHz only. Also, the two third generation units seem to have much less problems playing variable bit rate MP3s.
