WANTED : OMA files that cause HIMDRenderer to produce 'static'

Hi, Im working on fixing one of the major bugs in HIMDRenderer. The one where it is given an OMA file as input, does not error, but produces an output file full of static.

These OMA files are probably from Sony MP3 players/recorders that take OMA files. This bug happens because the decoded OMA produces mp3 data, and not PCM data which HIMDRenderer is expecting (assuming).

I cannot re-create such files myself, since I only have a (well, two) HIMD recoders, so if you have encounterd this bug then please say so on this thread :)

If you can give me (via link or email or possibly PM attachment) a relativly small OMA file (less than 6mb) that causes this bug to happen, then please do so.

Thanks.

PS: And thanks to all your bug reports. They have helped in fixing several bugs so far, as well as helping me get to the bottom of this 'static' problem :) :)

Hi Marc, thanks for a great program! I've converted nearly all my 50GB SS Library to MP3 now..

I'm getting the static burst at the end of some files when converting from oma to MP3. It seems quite random - most files in an album are free, but one or two might get the static for some reason. All my oma files are of high bitrates - 256 or 352k and usually coded from (Audacity'ed) Wav files or the original CD. Unfortunately the smallest one I know of that produces static is over 14MB - I can send you that if you like!

It's not really been a huge problem, as I can usually delete the static with MP3direct cut, though once or twice it has overlapped the track ending, and obviously it would be best not to happen at all.

I'm not sure if this the right place, but I have two (other) requests for the next Hi-MD Renderer version - can we have proper ID3 v2 (preferably v2.3), and preferably have the option not to have the SS track prefix (eg 00-) on the output filenames.

Once again, cheers. :)

The bug I described above isn't really what you descirbed. Some people are complaining that the entire output mp3 or wav file is static, and is only a minute or 2 long.

The first improvement you suggested will be possible if the ID3 library I use for tagging mp3's supports it (it probably does). Although is it required, as I can only get Artist, Track title, Genre, track number and album from OMA file..... This needs investigation :)

As for the second improvement you suggested:

Ive added the ability to configure how the output filename is generated using the Title, album, artist, original filename, track number, etc, as well as a custom output folder.

Glad to see there is still development happening with this program. You've been here for us since the beginning (before SONY gave us the ability to convert to WAV!), and I encourage anyone that finds this program useful to donate if they can. I have donated in the past and am sure I will again, knowing it's still in progress.

That said, fortunately (or unfortunately) I have not experienced this problem. Does it happen only when encoding to mp3?

It seems to be with OMA files that contain mp3 data... Although im not 100% sure...I only know from the bug report / log files that the Sony OMA decoder outputs mp3 data instead of PCM which I "intercept" and assume its PCM (and because its not PCM , its heard as static) .. so my guess of what causes this is OMA files that contain mp3 data. Most probably with non minidisc mp3 devices

ps: Many thanks for the continued support :) :)
