"Failed to transfer Data"

Hello all,

I'm new to this board so I apologise if this has already been covered or is in the wrong place, but I was wondering if anyone could offer me some help. I've been trying to transfer a live recording from my MD (MZ-NH600) which I recorded the other night, and SS keeps telling me it has 'Failed to transfer the data'. I've listened back to the recording, and I know all the data is there. SS also reads the disc and shows up the correct info, but every time I try and copy it across to my computer it brings up this error message when I hit 80%. The concert ran across two discs and the second disc has transfered without a problem.

Is it just a dodgy disc? Is there anything else I can try before I resort to doing an analogue transfer.

Thanks. :)

Some shots in the dark:

You should do a direct USB connection, not through a hub.

Make sure there's a lot of free disk space and as few other processes running as possible. SonicStage is a real resource hog, and maybe it is hitting some kind of limit with a long track.

For a pure digital transfer, but in realtime, you could use Total Recorder, which catches the audio going through your soundcard. Standard Edition is worth the $18--Total Recorder is also very handy for recording streaming audio. Connect, play back the audio through SonicStage, record with Total Recorder.

I guess you could also try adding a track mark somewhere in that long track, and see if shorter tracks would upload easier. But I would hesitate to make any changes on the disc for fear of wrecking the whole thing.

My strategy would be to use Total Recorder and then, once I was sure I had a good copy of the music, to add a track mark and try uploading with SonicStage.

Thanks for that. :) I've made a copy so I'll try the track mark idea.

What version of SonicStage are you using?

v4.3 currently.

v4.3 currently.

Are you using Vista?

I am on XP myself, when I tried running 4.3 I started experiencing something similar to this and not be able to upload my recordings successfully.

Switching back to 4.2 solved the problem for me. I would recommend uninstalling 4.3 and installing 4.2 unless you are using Vista.

4.2 can be found here: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=17769

Thanks for that. I'm on XP so I might try reinstalling v4.2.

I have managed to transfer the audio via process of elimination. Right at the end of the track, there are two little silent gaps - just a half second each. I don't know what these are (problems with the disc I imagine) but it seems that this is what was causing the problem.
