MZ-NH900 - Service Mode help...

Hey guys,

I had loaned my NH900 to my friend awhile ago, and he has since returned it to me as it no longer functions correctly...

I have a feeling that it may be as good as dead, but figured I'd see if any of the service-mode guys here knew anything I could try in order to fix it...

Basically, it has trouble reading Hi-MD discs... Never seems to get past trying to load the TOC or something at the beginning. Standard MDs work sometimes, but when they do load the unit runs into some sort of problem after a few minutes of recording and seems to force a "Save Data / System file write" which never actually completes. If I stop the recording before it stops itself it saves the data and all just fine.

So heres where I am looking for some guidance. I'm not afraid to open the unit up and/or enter servoce mode. I did open it up and check the ribbon cable and check/clean the lens/heads. I will venture a guess that what's happening has to do with either the laser output or something with the motor that moves the laser/lens.

Are there any settings in service mode I can tweak to see if I can give the laser more output? Or anything else I can try?

Again this is a last ditch effort, so if I end up bricking the unit it's not a big deal... As it stands now it's not doing me much good so it's worth a shot in my book.

Thanks!
