conrad_lizard
HelloYesterday I found my old MD-player =) but I have a problem with it.When I start my Sharp mt877 it says Open and then turns off (and Yes, it’s closed). I think the problem maybe is a possible switch which recognizes if the lid is closed, but I don’t know if or where this switch is placed.I hope someone can help me with this. Avrin
The switch may have oxidized. Try opening and closing the lid several times - this may break the oxide.
horstborst
Hey, actually had same problem, I´m going to answer even its been a while since this post was created. Sorry for my english, I try my best:) With this nice model, the mechanism which tells the player whether its opened or closed is located in the surface-lid which includes the board for the display and the display itself. If youre looking on the player right in front of you, the mechanism sits on the left bottom corner inside the lid, between the display board and the cover. Its a grey movable little thing which you can locate from the outside without unscrewing the cover by using a little watchmakers screwdriver. To do that you have to open the player (as if you want to insert a MD). Try to manually turn the switch with the screwdriver an see whether your problem gets solved. If that is the case, the lid was probably unscrewed and taken apart in the past. A bad reassembling probably caused the problem, because to put it back right, the cover must not be closed! This is what you now have to do (Use patience, but its easy dont worry): 1. Open the player (fully open it up, as if you want to insert a md). 2. Unscrew the four screws that hold the lid in place carefully. Be careful not to scratch your players surface or twist something of the opening mechanism while unscrewing. Be careful with the little screws. They are very unhandy and can easily fall into the player or get lost somewhere. Put them on a white sheet of paper for example, a little bit away from where you are working. 3. The player lying in front of you, grab the lid at the edges of the left side. Then flip the lid cover to the right side but not too rude, because of course a flex-cable is connected between the player and the lid. 4. Now have a closer look at the mechanism the lid was bolted on. You see the inner frame which pops up when you press the opening knob in order to insert a md (which now is not possible, because the player is actually open), and two metal splints (to which the lid was bolted on with the four screws you undid). Those lids have to be put on right to the inner frame before bolt everything back together. There is a small latching for each splint. You have to match those latchings with the inner frame the right way (on the one side is a quadrangular hole at the inner frame where the latch must be put in, on the other side its similar, the latching helps taking the inner frame up), which you can see by taking a closer look. Take some time to understand the logic of the mechanism at this point, so you wont match it wrong. 5. Now that you matched the latchings and the inner frame, reassemble the lid all the reverse order as you unbolted it. Take care that while screwing everything together, the player is completely opened! Otherwise you will end up with the same problem again. Be careful and sensitive, the little screws easily could fall into the player and cause serious problems. Now everything should work!
