jpteasy
A thought came to me today and I thought I would share it with the community and see what people think.Disregarding practicality (as in 2008 MDs/HiMDs aren't as 'practical' as MP3 players with drag & drop capability) for those who don't have an MZ-RH1 and therefore unable to transfer standard Atrac recordings to Sonicstage, would there be any advantage sound quality wise in recording the sound from the standard MD onto a DVD-RAM or DVD-RW disc via a DVD recorder at maximum video quality and then recording onto a HiMD recorder of your choice (providing it has the transfer feature) via the optical lead recording at PCM quality? The idea came to me as I have just recorded an Oasis concert onto DVD from my V+ box and I will be making an audio only copy on a HiMD disc tomorrow via the optical out.Would it be worth it? kino170878
Of course it makes sense. Especially as RH1s are now getting rarer than hens teeth. But I would cut out the DVD recorder entirely if the objective is simply to end up with PCM recordings on Hi-MD via optical out. Meaning, take the optical out from an MD deck (I have three) and record in real time onto portable Hi-MD units (I have three). But maybe your setup is different. I never did progress from CD/MD recording decks to DVD recorders so I can't comment on that. Edited December 7, 2008 by kino170878
