six3one
I have recently reformatted my dads PC, which was a hand-me-down from myself many years ago.Back in the old days I used to have a MD and used OpenMG v2.0, but this was replaced by an i-river.My dad who is not IT literate in any way, would have been stuck with OpenMG popping up when a CD was inserted asking him if he wanted to convert it to ATRAC, which he did, even though he would have never used it in a sony portable device. Now my problem is that I thought I could just back up his music using OpenMG, download it from the web and import ready from him to use again. This is not the case, as it seems that OMG is now SonicStage, which does not recognise the backed up files when imported. (Am using SS4.3)Is there a way around this? Thanks,George
MDane
1. On the newer versions (like 4.3) you can specify what files to make default with SS, or omit those you don't want it to open. That being the case, this should not be a problem.I am not 100% sure I am following the question, but you must run the file conversion tool (before hand) to remove the (small) .omg from the files, therefore making them free to be used on other system, or when importing them to a fresh install. six3one
Sorry my question is a bit convoluted, I am not sure if I am following the procedure for the file conversion correctly. When I run the File Conversion utility I am told that “The Tracks in the current database do not need to be converted”.The .omg files are associated with SSWhen I open the file and SonicStage executes I get a dialogue box citing"SonicStage (00002460-2107Cannot load the rights information for the selected tracks. The file format may not be supported by SonicStage(0000010d)"Could this mean the tracks are corrupted? You must use the file conversion tool before importing then into the new install. In other words, you would have needed to do the process using your original (2.0) software. If you simply saved the files before the format and later attempted to import them into the new software (4.3), then they will not work and are pretty much void if I am not mistaken. I lost quite a few files myself this way not knowing this a while back when my computer went kaputt, and I had to use another one. However, I was semi-lucky because I still had all of the source material on SP-MD so I was able to "re-upload" everything using SS 4.2. Now I make a point to run the FCT every once in a while, in case I get a HD crash or need to use the files on another computer, etc.

So when I used OMG to create a backup, I just assumed I could download OpenMG v2 again and everything would be fine.I'll just tell the old man that it was my fault and I accidently deleted all the files and they could not be recovered. Thanks for all your help.George Edited January 17, 2009 by six3one
