NW-E507: Problems deleting music

Question

Hi all, new here.

I have a NW-E507, which I upgraded to firmware ver 2.00.

I use MP3 File Manager to transfer songs to my player, because I hate using SonicStage and I have already my library in MP3 format.

After the first transfer all was OK, but when I wanted to delete some files and to replace them with others, "Cannot play" appears on each new transferred song. The files are OK, I use only one level of dirs, and to test I uploaded some files which were already on the player, and surprise! the new ones don't play.

Using user manual's advice, I formatted the memory (took less than a second!) and transferred, in 2 steps, the songs. All played well. Then I noticed that the songs in a dir had their ID3 info incorrect, dashes and even strange chars instead of track/artist (they were plain ASCII on my PC) though they played OK.

In an attempt to solve the problem, I deleted them and transferred them back to the player. This time the names are correct, but each new song says "Cannot play".

So basically whenever I want to delete something, new stuff will not be playable and I have to format the memory???

Please help!

I managed to somehow solve the problem, although I don't know exactly what it was.

Firstly, I flashed my player with and 2.0 US version (I'm in Europe) to gain the increased volume ( I think it is louder now).

Then I noticed some remains of SonicStage, both in Program Files and in Add/Remove Programs, 2 "OpenMG ..." entries. I got rid of them and then all the transfers went fine, even if I deleted and put back stuff in the player.

In any case, I think that Sony software sucks big time and they should od something about that. On my new PC SonicStage 3.0 and 3.3 crashed with no reason when trying to add some MP3s to library, though they play well on the NW-E507 via MP3 File Manager.

I kinda had a similar problem with my A608, where songs with ID3 tags that had weird characters would come out as all "U"'s or dashs. I had to format to properly delete songs because the player wouldn't play any new songs I put on. Now I check the ID3 for all the songs before I upload them. Totally agree with ya, have to wrestle with Sony's software to get it to work properly.

Sony software is weird that way, when I close Sony's Connect player for example, there are still processes still running in the background like Sony's CDDB thing (aka tinyhttp) and others which hinders MP3 File Manager.

Florin,

Itd oesn`t seems to me that you have tried Sonic Stage ve3.4 .pLEASE USE SS ver3.4 which is better than Ssver3.3 &3.0

Edit your ID tages using some ID tag editing software or SonicStage again.

I didn't try Sonic Stage 3.4 because I couldn't find an all-in-one installation kit, with no need for internet downloads (my home connection is poor).

Anyway, after earlier vresions experience, I try to keep my PC free from stuff like that. MP3 File Manager is all I need - if it does the job.
