Mike Parker
Hi everyone"Sorry if this isn't the spot to post questions. I didn't see another spot for my question.I've inherited a Sony MZ-NF810 recorder but can't seem to make it work properly. I think it is recording but it doesn't seem to play back. I don't have the original earphones with the remote and instead I'm using a regular pair of ear buds from the Dollar Store. Do I need the original earphones?Any help you could suggest would be great. I also need help setting or confirming the settings and basically "making it go". Thanks!Mike
KJ_Palmer
Well, you don't need the original earbuds, any ones with a 3.5 mm jack would do. A few questions would help point to the problem if there is one:- How exactly are you recording? Microphone, line in, optical in or via PC with Sonictsage/Simpleburner?- What connectors to your source (CD, cassette, microphone) are you using?- Does the recording level bar in the MD display window fluctuate when recording?- Have you tried the radio - does that work?- If you access to a pre-recorded MD, does that play back OK?Can't think of any others for the moment, but that should hep. I'm recording using a microphone (mic in), with a Shure SM 58 mic and standard cable. The recording bar does flucate when recording. But I haven't tried the radio as I do not have the remote and can't find the settings on the recorder itself.Oddly enough, it does play pre-recorded MDs.I'm suspecting bad play heads as per the reply in the above thread (see forum). KJ_Palmer
Yes, judging by that thread, your overwrite head may have gone. Could still use it as a player, but it would be uneconomical to have it fixed. I imagine the radio would work, you may be able to find one on eBay.
