The Source Follower/Linkwitz Mod

Im not fully sure how this is meant to be implemented. Im using panasonic wm-61a mics. I cut the trace and soldered the other tab to the case, then soldered the wires on as if I hadn't modified anything, then plugged into greenmachines batterybox circuit. When I tested them by putting them directly into my speakers subwoofer hole i was lucky to get 2 bars even with the minidisc levels at 30. When i tested with my unmodded capsules the levels had to be around 8 to get an unclipped recording.

Some googling produced 2 different results

http://www.mp3forkidz.com/mic/mod.html

The second link shows not making a new connection to the case. Do I need to use either of those websites circuits instead of greenmachines for the source follower mod to work properly, or is the mod really that effective at reducing sensitivity that even when I used the mics live I couldnt exceed two bars with the minidisc levels at 30? Would a preamp, maybe something like this http://www.geocities.com/ferocious_1999/md/micpreamp2.html be a better solution?

I hope someone can help, as currently the greenmachine batterybox and capsule combination slightly distorts at gigs, yet my current source follower mod is way way way to unsensitive to be used.... The modded mic output isnt very much good at all
