Question

Hi,

I bought a NW-E507 for my wife and a NW-A608 for me :D

So far, I like both pretty much. I use MP3Manager for both even if it means sacrificing some 608 features but I can't stand that shitty Sony software. Both are working well and sound great esp. with the Sharp MD33S in-ear-headphones I ordered from Japan because they are the best to be had.

Two questions though:

1.) I flashed my 608 to firmware 2.0 no problem but the 507 can't be flashed, error like "system info can't be found" pops up. I used the right 507 flasher (even tried the slightly different 200 and 201 thingies) but won't work. This is no biggie though since the changes are hardly worth the hassle. Any ideas?

2.) Can those devices be used as a USB data stick too??? I mean, they are notices as mass storage devices and both my wife and me use about 50% for music on each so we'd like to use the other 50% for documents and other stuff we need to transfer from and to work. We did that with our old Samsung Yepp but that is a little small with 256MB now. I'd like to create a folder on the devices and put docs, jpgs etc in there. Can this be done safetly or will it screw up the music data or the device itself?

Thanks for your help.

Thank you, for 1 it doesn't matter much because the "enhancements" aren't that important. For 2, I leave the folders already there alone for sure just making a new one for my files. But I wasn't sure if that would result in problems with the MP3Manager or something.

That leads me to another question. There's a driver (together with the MP3Manager) for those player so that they are recognized. What happenes if you plug them in without drivers installed? I'm asking because the PCs at work don't have those drivers and we're not allowed to install them for sure. This may affect the MP3 transfer stuff but this is unimportant. Does the lack of driver means they may not be recognized and therefor are unusable as mass storage?
