NW-E507 does do gapless playback

Question

So today I broke down and bought a flash player to coplement my HiMD and HD based ATRAC players. I wanted something I could use to work out, do yardwork, etc. without worrying too much about knocking it around.

I read in another thread in this forum that the flash based players didn't support gapless playback. This was dissapointing, but since the flash player is complementary to my other players, it didn't bother me much.

So, when I loaded up Abbey Road by The Beatles on my new purchase, wasn't I pleasantly surprised to hear gapless transitions between the tracks that make up the medly on what was originally Side 2. :D

According to the player, it is running version 1.00 of the firmware (though according to the serial number, it should be a more current version).

I purchased this player in the US (Best Buy), am using SS version 3.4, and use ATRAC3 encoding at 105 kbps.

Has anybody else noticed that this player does indeed support gapless playback?

This player kicks some serious ass. I'm quite happy with it and I highly recommend it! Now I can bring my ATRAC encoded music with me to work out and stuff without worrying about damaging my pride-and-joy NW-HD3.

I thought all Network Walkmans have always been gapless with atrac. I have an old Network walkman NW-E3 from 2001, and it is gapless. My E99 is gapless also.

This is the thread that led me to believe that Sony's ATRAC flash devices didn't support gapless playback:

http://www.atraclife.com/forums/index.php?...=644&hl=gapless

The comments at the end of the thread make it pretty clear that it was believed that gapless playback was not supported.

I just wanted to let folks know that this isn't true, at least for the 500 series players. And from the comments in this thread, it would seem even the older ones do gapless too.

BTW, I rip my discs using EAC to wave and drag the files into SS. No problems with gaps. Exact Audio Copy is accepted as the defacto tool for ripping CDs. Anybody that uses EAC shouldn't be afraid to use it in conjunction with SS. It works for me with all of my ATRAC devices.

Cheers!

Note: discussions within the thread in question are specific to the NW-A600 series with side notes on the NW-E107 and the VAIO Pocket. In addition, my comments are strictly for the A600 units - not a general remark for Sony's Flash Players. From personal experience, the A600 series does not support gapless playback.

By the way, congrats on your new E507! :)
