NW-E002F/E003F/E005F Firmware Update Version 2.0

Sony today released the firmware upgrade for Network Walkmans NW-E002F/E003F/E005F. The firmware update is of version 2.01 and amount to approximately 4,534KB.

NEW FEATURES:

• Playback of AAC format* on the Network Walkman is available. It enables the transfer of AAC file on SonicStage CP 4.0 without converting to ATRAC format.

  *Note: Below is the format of the AAC file which can be played back with the Network Walkman:

  - AAC (Advanced Audio Coding)

  - Sampling frequency: 11.025/12/16/22.05/24/32/44.1/48 kHz

  - Bit rate: 16 – 320 kbps, VBR(Variable Bit Rate) is supported.

  - AAC file which is copy protected or encrypted one cannot be played back.

  - It is not guaranteed that all AAC files can be played back even if the above conditions are met.

DOWNLOAD PROCEDURES

Please follow the steps below to download the Firmware Upgrade Program:

1. Set up the folder for storing the downloaded file on the hard disk. Assume the folder is named FWUP and is created in C drive.
2. Download the following file into the folder created at Step 2.
3. After the download is completed, in Windows Explorer, select Views -> Details to check the file size. If the file size is not the same as indicated earlier, please download the file again.

FIRMWARE UPGRADE INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

Note:

• During this upgrade process, the Network Walkman requires a minimum of 3MB of free space. Do note that it cannot be guaranteed that during the upgrade process, the tracks and data stored in the Network Walkman would not be damaged or deleted.
• Please transfer all tracks and data from the Network Walkman to the computer before carrying out the firmware upgrade.

1. Connect the Network Walkman to the computer.
2. Close all the programs that are currently opened in Windows.
3. Go to Start button on the task bar and click Run. (The Run dialog box will be open)
4. Type C:\FWUP\NW-E000_V2_0.exe in the Open text box and click OK.
5. The firmware upgrade program will be started.
6. Please follow the instructions that appear to carry out the firmware upgrade.

   Note:

   - Please do not disconnect the USB cable connection between the Network Walkman and computer during firmware upgrade.

   - During firmware upgrade, USB connection is automatically controlled and USB Connect indication off message may be display. USB disconnect message may also intermittently appear on some computer.

7. When the message indicating installation complete appears, click Finish.

   VERIFYING FIRMWARE VERSION:

   Please follow the steps given below:

   

   1. Press and hold the /HOME button until the HOME screen appears.
   2. Press the / button to select (MENU) and press the button to confirm.
   3. Press the / button to select Advanced Menu> and press the button to confirm.
   4. Press the / button to select Information> and press the button to confirm.
   5. Press the / button to show [ 4: version information for the player's firmware ]
   6. Press and hold the /HOME button until the display changes.<HR noShade SIZE=1>
